Exciting times for litigation support services providers. The Clearwell Partner Summit in San Francisco was a positive event, and provided re-assurance to Clearwell partners that the acquisition by Symantec will be a positive development for Clearwell's providers.
The link above provides a very brief recap of some of the events that took place at the Summit.
Symantec has some interesting plans for Clearwell, and has mapped out a roadmap through 2012. The Summit sought feedback and input from Clearwell's trusted partners throughout the U.S, and EU. Look for some exciting Clearwell announcements over the next several months.
Some interesting points made during the Summit:
George Socha's presentation was entitled, "Most Attorneys Know Nothing About eDiscovery".
George Socha's central theme was that information management will become a more integral segment of the EDRM schema than the Review phase for future projects.
George Socha indicated that legal malpractice carriers are concerned about law firms that process eDiscovery internally, and are considering including this as a factor in insurance coverage rates for firms that are performing this function.
Aaref Hilay, VP and General Manager of Clearwell stated that Clearwell has experienced a 276% annual growth in the volume of data they handle, aggregated over the past 5 years.
Brian Dye ,VP of Product Management of Symantec indicated that there are 8 segments of Symantec products that are measured by Gartner, and Symantec's products are listed in all 8 segments.
John Zent, of Yahoo's Risk Management department, stated "eDiscovery is a baby that is growing up before our eyes".
John Zent, discussed his 5 "P's": Product, Price, Processes, People, and Performance.
John Zent indicated that he feels opposing counsel looks for eDiscovery mistakes when they have a weak substantive case, and want to try and force a settlement by driving up costs.
John Zent stated that Yahoo requires its outside counsel to use Clearwell's services, and encouraged the use of solutions tailored to fit the specific case. He also encouraged a "blended" approach toward finding the proper workflow.
John Zent said he encourages his service provider to act as a "watchdog" against outside counsel, and help Yahoo from incurring unnecessary expenses.
Clearwell's team encouraged partners to provide comments and suggestions to create better working relationships between Symantec, and the existing valued Clearwell service provider partners.
Clearwell made it clear that Symantec has big plans for Clearwell, and that they intend to keep working with their experienced service provider partners to provide the managed services that Clearwell users rely upon.
